About

The album Cembra has received great reviews by some of Sweden’s biggest newspapers, including DN (Dagens Nyheter 22/8), Johannes Cornell wrote:

This is thought evoking music. There is a daring and disarming quality that the trio has in common with Nils Berg’s groups. At the same time the sophisticated interaction with contemporary music is in line with Bobo Stenson Trio. What a combination.

Influenced by a wide range of musical genres
stretching from renaissance to contemporary
classical music, New York jazz to
soundtracks and through playful and creative
interplay, Graden/Agnas/Fernqvist takes the
audience for a mystical ride through time and
space. Experience the village of Cembra in
the Italian Dolomites and get acquainted
with Ottmar, the party animal. Join the trio
back to the 17th Century, the sibirian
countryside and to the whereabouts of Mr
Gesualdo da Venosa. Also, lurking in the
shadows, a large cat, the Maine Coon.

Pianist Johan Graden is alongside
Graden/Agnas/Fernqvist also a member of
the Swedish/Belgian improv group Leksak,
and a newly formed quartet with saxophonist
Joakim Milder amongs others. In a review
(July 2012) Ystad’s Allehanda wrote: ”Lyrical
piano playing. Humorous and playful yet
intellectual and thoughtful…”
Niklas Fernqvist has performed and
recorded with Lina Nyberg, Fredrik
Ljungkvist and Gösta Rundqvist. Drummer
Konrad Agnas is also a part of Johan
Christofferson Trio and Agnas Brothers. All
three trio members frequently perform in
different groups and constellations in the
swedish and international jazz scene.
In addition to the original compositions, the
album contains tracks by Carla Bley and
Morten Lauridsen amongs others. Featured
on two of the tracks is Linus Lindblom, a
Stockholm-based saxophonist, awarded the
Swedish Radio’s Newcomer of The Year
award in 2007.
